Living in a Bubble
Sorry it's been so long between videos... a serious illness in my family and a new business and next thing you know it's been 2 years.
While I haven't made a guitar review video here - it's actually my band that I have with my mates here in Melbourne. Between juggling work, mortgages and family we head into the studio for a day from time to time and knock out a couple of original songs. This one is called Living in a Bubble. It's kinda apt considering the craziness going on at the moment.
I hope you all are well and getting through these challenging days! Lot's of love and be well! Matt.

    Lovely - but I don't understand how come this sort of item end up in this place… for example I did not know that they have reliable electricity and wotnot. Don't get me wrong - it a good idea ect but what with the heat and moisture, you’d of thought things like music and houses were unusual.

    After watching for 2 mins I thought... wtf... you have bought all these parts and are not going to put it together yourself? I know time is precious, but man, the reward of assembling your own axe - not just buying the parts and giving them to someone who knows how to bolt it together. I'm sad for you. I have just finished my scratch build partcaster - by that I mean I bought the pick-ups, pots, switches and wire and soldered it all up. I used a fender neck and body (I am not a woodworker or luthier) and sourced all my parts. Then I put it together and researched how to set it up. Today, I just finished the intonation, and it is beautiful :) Come on man... do it again and assemble it yourself. I'm sure it will sound great, but you would connect more if you had invested the time in it.

    The Edge from U2 used a ‘59 White Falcon on a few songs over time. He used it on the studio versions of “Indian Summer Sky” and “All I Want Is You.” For live applications, he’s used it for some versions of “One Tree Hill” and at least one live performance in 2001 of their 1992 hit song “One.” He’s also used a couple of Chet Atkins models sporadically on some songs from 1997 to 2010. In addition, he used a vintage Duo Jet in the video for and live applications of “Invisible,” which was released circa 2017. They seemed to have stopped playing the song in 2019.

    As far as pickups go, I like the idea of having a pre-amped mic. Fishman has a kit that is both an under saddle pezio (spell), combined with a pre-amped mic. It can be played on all of either one or the other; or a combination of both. Or maybe an ofline mic! This sounds like the best of all worlds to me!!

    I never thought that even one pickup could make such a variety of sounds. Especially near the bridge is sharp sound. It seems that various sounds will spread depending on the playing ability of the player.

    I looked through the last 10 posts and did not see it. I believe it was indicated that the standard 12 string has the E through G strings an octave apart, with the B and E strings doubled. I believe McGuinn had the E through G strings doubled and the B and E strings an octave apart. Or maybe E and A were the only doubled strings. Anyway, it was indicated McGuinn did this to give his songs a unique and brighter sound. Someday, when I can practice on a regular basis, I will get a 12 string.

    Great presentation Matt, but just two minor corrections. The '58 was professionally sprayed with a smooth high gloss finish, photos from that time clearly show that. They also show scuffs around the edges almost immediately afterwards. The brush marks were most likely later attempts by John doing touch ups, you might expect better from a guy that went to art college! Also, the '58 was never damaged, the '64 325 was a rush order by F.C. Hall as a replacement after seeing its rough condition upon first meeting the Beatles in NYC. It was shipped to Miami just in time for their second appearance on Ed Sullivan. Citing: Beatles Gear-The Ultimate Edition & Rickenbacker Guitars- Out of the Frying Pan into the Fireglo. Both are amazing references for us gear nerds!😄

Zappa or santana sg special in standard trim photo soueced matches this one, it also has a wonky truss rod bell cover(screw holes wrongly positioned at factory) and a stair step componsated bridge

    Demarino fucked up Lennon's '58 325 Capri. "Restoring" is being generous. It had a clear coat finish over the natural maple in it's original state before the coach paint. Demarino used a disgusting stain over the entire guitar and it was shoddy at best. Close up images show the original maple finish in between the pickups and the bridge. The result is a much darker color than how it should have been and you can see the spots he never touched. I gather he truly never uninstalled the pickups and hardware on that alone. I would have been livid if it were my instrument. He half assed the job and effectively ruined John's guitar.

    I own a V59 as well. I remember going into a music store in New York in the early 90's knowing that I was going to walk out with one. The salesman at the store brought out one in black and the other in Natural. I had a hard time choosing which one I wanted to own, and so being that the original color was natural, I ended up buying that one. I still own it today with the original hang tags and case. It is a special piece of wood to me. Also, just to let the techies know, It only comes with one Truss Rod.

    Hey TONE, Bit of a pet peeve for me... The "Tone Killer" opinions are wrong and here is why (I've had a '65 since the early 70s). A little-known fact (even at Gibson) is that, starting about '63 a solid wood brace between the sound hole and bridge was introduced. A threaded rod in the center with a flat tip was tightened up against the top... rumors say it was to prevent the front of the bridge from sinking. Problem is most of these fine guitars had these "tone killers" (what techs called them) pulled out and there was never a rash, as far as I know, of J200s with a sunken bridge (anyone?)... so what were they for???? Many early '60s J200s had pickups added... the "Tone Killer" prevented feedback... is the only logical answer. Those blaming the Tune-O-Matic are making a wrong assumption, it was the "Tone Killer" that was killing the tone of course! They were hard to see and very few owners even knew they were in there (the Techs did). In fact, I got my J200 from a friend who complained about how quiet it was... I read about them about a year later and simply turned the screw back and... Instant tone and volume (I wanted to keep it stock so it's still inside... sound effect is minimal but really adds to the weight). So TONE... your amazing J200 once had an actual "Tone Killer'" in it that was removed by a tech many years ago. And for the mistaken Tune-O-Matic haters out there it may be time to re-assess your opinion (rumor has it there are some amazing high end electric guitars using them... lol) of these amazing instruments... BTW, I've seen them selling for up to $20,000 Canadian!

      @walterrizotto8668 Рік тому

      This would be a stupid thing to do. If you want the Rick sound, why consider taking it out? On top of that, Roger Mc Guinn uses finger picks and plays ups with his 4th & 5th fingers, so he actually plays a combination of tenor 2nd/tenor 1st.
